Kitchen Design 101

Tomorrow we get to choose the first thing we would like for our new house! Unfortunately it's the kitchen which is like the most important room in the house and I'm afraid we are going to ruin it! We are going to a kitchen design center and the builder said it would probably take about an hour. I don't know what I want in terms of cabinets. I do know I want something classic and not trendy. I don't want someone walking into my house in 10 years and saying, "Hey those look like cabinets from 2007!" Well maybe no one will say that but I know I can definitely see trends in kitchen cabinets especially when we were house hunting.

Some of you know my delimma with the kitchen . . . well here are the floor plans of the house. These are old and when they made the blueprints some of the demensions changed too.

My main concern is with the living room. I'm afraid it is going to feel small. I believe the dimensions now are about 14 by 14 which is the same as our current living room which does not feel small to me at all but our home is very open concept and this new one is not as much. However Todd likes it the way it is. He sees it as the "adult room" which will be separate and away from the kids. So I think we will just go ahead and plan the kitchen where it is now. I just hope I can get lots and lots of cabinets! I'm always running out of space for stuff . . . I had to laugh when I read the realty ad for this house because it says it boasts TONS of cupboard space!!! I was like NO!!!! But of course I would never have pointed it out!

Oh yeah and in the ensuite, we are getting a garden tub! I'm not big on baths but I may just have to start taking more baths! The shower was completely omitted but we insisted a separate shower be put in because that is something we do everyday. So we are foregoing a second sink to get a shower put in.

I'll try and update about what we decided on for the kitchen!

Btw I resized the house plans so if they get cutoff I'm sorry!

ETA: I resized the plans to THUMBNAIL size and do you think it would work?!?!? Grrrrrrrrr
