Thanksgiving

My dad and Gillian on Thanksgiving 2007

First off Happy Thanksgiving to all my Canadian friends! And what a stinkin' hot one it was! My dad was reminding me today that last year it actually snowed! What a HUGE difference a year makes! In many ways I actually prefer the snow . . .

So Todd has to work the whole bloody weekend again which sucks because I like to do the pumpkin patch on Thanksgiving Monday. I can't do it by myself so it'll have to wait for another weekend. Instead we went to my Dad's and Stepmom's for turkey dinner. Eva's son was there with his wife and two kids. I love Eva. I love her children and grandchildren. They are just good people, ya know? Seriously, if you have to go the route of stepmom and stepfamily, it couldn't get better than this.

Todd had to work for 6 so I thought we'd probably have to leave by 4 pm. We only have one vehicle and he likes to take it when he works nights. Dinner wasn't going to be ready until 5. However Matthew had his heart set on Thanksgiving dinner. It was so funny, he actually turned down McD's for lunch because he thought I was offering that in lieu of turkey. He got upset when I told him we'd have to leave before "Thanksgiving". So I called Todd to see if he couldn't possibly take his motorcycle. He generally doesn't like to at night but he was fine to bring it in so that we could stay longer and Matthew could get his turkey.

Mia was so sweet. I figured we'd be ditching the nap today because we were at grandpa's and it's not a usual place for napping. After running around with Matthew for an hour Mia comes up to me at 1 and asks for her blankey. I asked if she wanted to take a nap and she says, "yeah". So I get her all set up in the guest room and she out like a light! Sweet girl slept until 3:30! I was ready to suck it up and deal with a cranky toddler but she totally surprised me and was her happy self again after the nap.

I wish sleep was contagious because my other princess really needed it but fought it like crazy! Gillian only slept for 2 twenty minute intervals from the time we got there at 11:30 until we left 5:30 pm. CRAZINESS! She was so tired but just wouldn't sleep!

My dad was having a few beers and he gets so emotional when he's tipsy. He kept telling me over and over how proud he was of me and the kids. He really loves the kids. They are his only grandchildren so he is pretty much over the moon about them. It's so sweet to see.

It's nice that you got to have your Thanksgiving dinner. You're lucky Mia slept, Ava will not sleep outside of her own bed.
Hope you had a great time.

Sounds like a great Thanksgiving. How cute of Mia to let you know of nap time. And what a proud Grandpa.

What a sweet post! Your dad sounds awesome Junie. I am jealous. And that is so awesome you have such a great step-mom/step-family. You are probably one of the few that can say that.

Happy Thanksgiving!
