A couple weeks ago Todd got Matthew turned on to this soldier game that he had on the computer. It's a strategy type game which is complicated and Matthew doesn't get all the missions he's supposed to do but he likes to just move the soldiers around and have "battles". Occasionally he gets lucky and wins.
I know I've mentioned before that Matthew is an army nut. He lives and breathes it. Unfortunately, Todd(especially Todd)and I enable his obsession. For example a month or so ago Matthew went with Todd to an airshow and Todd bought him an army helmet complete with mesh and everything. I wouldn't have bought it but whatever. So yeah now I'm that mom who has a son walking around places wearing said helmet. Kinda embarrassing for me but Matthew soaks it up! He loves the attention and all the comments. The only way I could stop him from wearing it to school was by telling him he doesn't want everyone to see part of his costume before Halloween(yep, he wants to be an army guy, did you see that coming?).
Anyway back to that computer game. His interest started slow but it's been building up over the past few weeks. Now we are at the point where he become way too obsessed. He threw a crying fit tonight because it was bedtime and he couldn't play anymore. He was awful! I told him his behaviour was not acceptable and he was not allowed to play the game tomorrow because of it. Well that made things worse but it made it perfectly clear that he needs to step away from it. I know it's partly my fault. I let him play but because I'm always so busy in the evenings, he ends up playing entirely too long. I need to pay more attention and nip this in the bud now.
And Todd wants to buy an X-box. I don't think so.

We are all screen time addicts, so I know how that goes. I don't mind Nathan having computer time, but I try and limit the non-educational kind. Like he can have 30 minutes on Nick.com a day, and then he has to play on Starfall or PBS or something. But man, it can be a struggle! Oh, and when he gets in trouble, computer is always the first thing to go because he enjoys it so much.
I can't wait to see Matthew in his army costume. He will be too cute!!
As far as the computer game..YIKES!! Hopefully you can nip it in the bud now. And I definitley see this being a problem for Julia as she gets older. At school, they have educational computer games that she already likes to play. And this is at age 2!!
Wow, he's got the best Halloween costumes. Easton's certainly excited to be Buzz...
Video gaming can be rough.
Tetris and Bejeweled have been known to haunt me in my sleep.
I know the feeling...except I think I'm like Matthew about the computer! Good luck subduing the obsession. =)
