Western Fair

Best laid plans are often laid to waste . . . I originally had planned to take Gillian to get her ears pierced on Saturday and then the girls and I were going to meet up with Heather and crew on Sunday. Todd and Matthew were supposed to be gone all weekend re-enacting. But Todd decided not to go this weekend(Thankfully we didn't say anything to Matt because he LIVES for "soldiers" as he calls them). He didn't want to do any of the things I had planned though. BOOOOOO! So there went all my plans. Turns out the whole picnic thing with Heather was cancelled anyway probably because the weather is so crappy today.

The fair is in town so we ended up taking the kids there instead. It's HUGE! We'd need a full day to see/do it all and that just ain't happening. We didn't even get there until 11:30. It's also freakin' expensive! Only Todd and I had to pay to get in($20) but food was almost $20 and rides were $20 for 20 tickets. Most rides are 2 or 3 tickets so with two kids those tickets don't last long! They only went on like 4 rides. That's crazy! We could have easily spent another $20 just on ride tickets but at that point we were done and ready to leave. There was a Kidszone that had a bunch of free activities that entertained them too. Matthew and Mia both had a good time.

Mia had a tiny nap of maybe 20 minutes on the way to the fair but today was just one of those days we were going to have to skip a formal nap. I thought she might sleep on the way home but nope. She was very whiny though(a huge understatement). I ended up getting her to bed at her usual time but she had a horrible sleep! You would think(and correct me if I'm wrong) that having missed a nap she would be dead tired and out all night and well into the morning. I think most people would think that anyway. But not my Mia! She was up and down all night. Todd dealt with her the whole time too which was nice since I was dealing with the other non-sleeper!

Gillian is still waking at these really weird times. I don't understand it. I feed her up very well, get her swaddled and in bed by 9 ish. Then she's up grunting and fussing at 12:30. I rarely pick her up. I don't want her to get used to this but it doesn't seem to matter what I do. I give her some gripe water to soothe her belly and she'll usually go back to sleep in a half hour but that a half hours sleep I've lost. She usually up again at 4ish and that's when I pick her up and feed her. She seems honestly hungry at that time so I can't tough her out any longer and really at that point all I want to do is do whatever it takes to make her happy so I can go back to sleep.

Isn't preventing someone from sleeping akin to torture? :P

That is a bummer that your plans fell thru. And I can't believe how much the fair costs. I remember paying that much for a night pass and you could ride all the ride you wanted.
And I definitely think that keeping someone from sleeping is a form of torture. I hope you are able to get some rest.

Awww! I'm so bummed that your plans fell through! Especially with Heather!

I feel so bad for all you new mommies with babes that aren't sleeping for ya!

Ohhhh the no nap for Mia....so tricky. Most (but clearly not ALL) kids need a quality nap for quality sleep at night. That's what the books would tell ya anyway. Lord knows I've read 'em all.

Sorry you didn't get to meet the gals. :( Bummer.

That stinks yall weren't able to met up :( Maybe when I come up that way next spring/summer??? We will be visiting the IL's (yuck!) and also vacationing in Niagra again.

I can't believe how much that fair costs. Unreal!!

As far as the sleeping goes, you know we are in that mess too. I think we are finally getting back to at least where we were pre no-swaddle. Which still isn't that great. LOL
