The Zoo

Yesterday we did nothing. It felt like a waste of a beautiful day. Not sure why we didn't go anywhere or do anything . . . it just sort of happened that way. Todd and Matthew played a game on the computer for TOO long and Mia played with her toys and napped. She had the best time with her aquadoodle. She has a few other pictures that when wet reveal Dora and various characters.

Today I really wanted to DO something. Todd heard of this little zoo outside of a town about 40 minutes from here. Ideally I detest "roadside" zoos. We visited on once near London and I felt so bad for the animals there. A poor kangeroo was in a tiny habitat and couldn't even hop around like they should. Depressing. Todd believes it has since been shutdown. I hope so.

I was leary and this "zoo". Especially since I had never heard of it and I couldn't find it on any websites the night before. But off we go regardless because I honestly didn't know what else to do today besides go to the grocery store since it was closed tomorrow and I needed stuff for Matt's lunches this week.

It was advertised on the highway so that was promising. I thought it was a bit pricey even though we lied and said Mia was under 2(shhhhh don't tell anyone) so that she would be free. The first thing we encounter is a petting zoo. That was fun. Mia and Matthew enjoyed petting and feeding the goats. From there we saw zebras, wallabies, various fowl, monkeys, lemurs(Zooboomafoo!!!) and many more small wild animals. Mia and Matthew got a free pony ride. Another bonus. Matthew jumped in that line before I even realized what he was doing. Then a family of six lined up behind him. Mia got very upset thinking she wasn't going to get a turn but that family was so nice they let Mia go right after Matt! Then another lady gave Matthew and Mia the rest of their peanuts and grain to feed the animals. The cost $2/bag so it was so nice of her. We met some pretty sweet people today!

At that point I was thinking, "That's it??" But we saw a sign that led to more animals(lions, bears, cougars, reindeer, tigers) and a trail in the woods. Everything was going well then Mia FREAKED out. Apparently she wanted to ride in the stroller and toss the baby out! Ahhhhhh I don't think so! Why is it that my kids hate the stroller from the moment they can walk and then once they've become proficient at walking want to go BACK into the stroller?! Grrrrrrrr At this point we were not done but it looked like we were going to be forced to leave. However Todd managed to rally Mia for a bit longer by carrying her on his shoulders and we made it through the rest of the exhibits without a problem.

I was very impressed by the care and consideration for the comfort and well-being of the animals. I would definitely go back.

Oh and sorry there are no pictures. Yeah I suck. lol

What a fun time! Petting zoos and pony rides would have been right up Julia's alley. Especially free pony rides...they always are an additional cost to the entrance fee here. I have never understood that. So that is awesome you got them for free!!

And isn't today the 1st day of school for you?? Hope you had a good one.

That is awesome that you guys discovered this place. We have something very similar about 40 minutes from us. I've forgotten all about going there this summer. Thanks for the reminder!

Next time you must take pictures!

What?!?!? No pictures? Has visiting my blog taught you nothing??? :)

Well, I'm glad you had fun and it's silly how the kids want to be "babies" again sometimes.

I'm glad it was an acceptable zoo.
